Video Explanations
Every practice question in the course includes detailed answer explanations helping you understand why the answer is correct and why the incorrect answers are incorrect. We’ve included images and illustrations to further help you understand the explanation
However sometimes that isn’t enough, you need someone to actually talk you through it in detail or for math to actually show you how to solve the problem step by step. That’s exactly what’s included for every question in the course.
Having the combination of detailed explanations and video explanations creates an environment where you can actually learn the material from the practice questions, not just get a correct or incorrect message.

There is a HESI A2 exam, which is the entrance exam, and there is a HESI exit exam, which will test you will take at the conclusion of your program.
There are several versions of the HESI A2 entrance exam, and each program requires a different set of sections.
If your school requires you to take the HESI A2 math section, you'll need to study and review fractions, conversions, setting up an equation from a word problem, ratios, percentages, proportions, and calculating area or volume of various shapes.
If your school requires the vocabulary section of the HESI A2, you would need to study prefixes, suffixes, and root words primarily to identify medical terminology. Common words to know and study include adverse, constrict, and posterior.
If you need to prepare for the A&P section of the HESI A2 exam, you should be reviewing the information you've learned from A&P 1 and A&P 2 on all systems. Know not only the general definitions and anatomy, but understand the functions of each system and it's relation to other parts of the human body and homeostasis.
The reading section of the HESI A2 requires you to study your reading comprehension skills, such as identifying the main idea, evaluating an author's argument or purpose, identifying tone, and reviewing sources as examples.
The biology section of the HESI A2 require students to study genetics and DNA, cellular structure and type, cellular reproduction and respiration, and macromolecules.
Lastly, the grammar section of the HESI A2 will require students to refresh their knowledge and application of grammar, including parts of speech, types of sentences, clauses, conjunctions, and subject-verb agreement.
While it can be scary and stressful, it doesn't have to be! The best way to begin studying for your test is by following these three steps.
Step 1. Take a free HESI Practice Test for each section of the HESI A2 your program requires. Get started with the HESI A2 Math practice test.
Step 2. Review your diagnostic report at the end of each section. Don't just look at your total score. Look at your score for each topic on the exam. Write down all the topics within the section you scored a 65% or lower on and circle any topics you got a 40% or lower on.
Step 3. Get study resources that align with your learning style. The HESI A2 Online Course has videos, flashcards, and a mobile app that students with all types of preferences benefit from. Use the course and study the topics in which you scored lowest.
Using this method allows you to create a plan and focus on your weaknesses so you can study effectively and improve your score faster.
The HESI A2 exam can have up to eight sections, however, most schools do not require all eight sections as a part of their admissions process. Most programs only require 4-5 sections.
When you schedule your HESI A2 remotely or in person, the testing facility will know which exams you need to take and only adminster those to you.
Before scheduling an exam, check with your program first. Not all programs allow remote testing, and some programs have specific testing centers.
If your program is flexible and allows both options, then the decision is yours. Whether you take your test in person or remotely, it is always protocolled and taken online.
Students in our HESI Study Group have said a positive thing about taking the test in person is that if there are any technical issues with the software, it can be addressed right then and there. However, students have said that when taking it in person, most of the times the scores are not made available to you right away, they are first sent to your school. This is not always the case, but seems to be the norm.
For those students who took the test remotely, they felt less anxiety being able to take the test from the comfort of their home and enjoyed knowing right away what their scores were. However, technical issues do occur and it can be difficult to get support from the testing facility which can cause stress or cause the test to be rescheduled.
Retake policies vary from school to school. It is best to ask your school before you begin studying or take the HESI A2 what their retake policy is.
Some programs only allow one retake per year while others allow two retakes within a year, but require a 60 day waiting period between tests. It is important to hear the policy directly from the school and know the admission deadlines so you can plan your studying and schedule your exam accordingly.
Most programs that use the HESI A2 Entrance Exam as part of their admissions program require at least a 70% on each section of the exam.
Each program is different so it is best to look at all of the schools you're interested in applying to and have at least three options. Write down their admission and score requirements as well as the required test sections.
To be competitive, aim to score at least 8% above the minimum score. For example, if the program requires a 70% on each section, aim for a 78% or better to improve your chances of being accepted and not waitlisted.
The HESI practice tests are timed just like the real exam to give you a sense of what the test will feel like on exam day.
The practice questions are not identical to the exam. However, they are written to be very similar to the real exam. If you use the practice tests scored reports as a guide to what to study and use the additional question banks by topic, you will be beyond prepared for your HESI A2 exam.
Focus not on memorizing questions, but understanding the concepts you'll be tested on.
We recommend beginning with a diagnostic HESI Practice Test to serve as your benchmark as you begin to study. The diagnostic scored report will let you know your score in each section and what you need to study within each section to get a better score.
We recommend taking a new practice test every two weeks so you can track your progress. Once you are scoring above your minimum required score, at least 5 points over in each section, you're ready to take the real exam.
